Exercises for windsurfers (and kiteboarders as well)

Do your arms feel like limp noodles after a session? Are you embarrassed by a wimpy handshake? Do you want to impress your friends with a manly grip? You want to beef up your wrists and forearms, right? Then try these exercises. They are very good for developing grip strength.

My forearms burn after doing these exercises. I have to grip the meels tightly while swinging them, to prevent them from flying out of my hands. The diameter of the meel handles is roughly the same as that of a windsurfing boom.

Some of the exercises target the obliques, abdominals, erector spinae and intercostal muscles. These are the core muscles used when windsurfing. Other exercises target the deltoids and trapezius muscles. You use these when waterstarting, to push a sail out of the surging sea.
