Quite a nice summary by Johnny Vasillaros in the above article:
"We want to preserve the beach and reef
for all the people of South Africa. We are not opposed to any landward development on the Point, but to the creation of a small-craft harbour, which would not only destroy the beach, but most of the marine life on the reef as well. We want to ensure safe and affordable access to the ocean for all boating enthusiasts of the city, and not just to an elite few."
It is the small craft harbour proposal that is really the issue. Most people support the upgrading of the point land area... but the idea of building these structures out into the sea at the expense of such a unique beach just seems irresponsible.
