Mast Needed

Hi there, I lost my mast off my trailer on the way up from the Cape last year and am needing to replace it. I think it was a Neil Pryde 430 or 460. Does anyone know of a spare one going for a good price?

Hi Tiger

I can get a new Arrows for R995 from Joluka. I was hoping to pay about R750 for a 2nd hand mast. Are you in Durban area?

Eish.. a new mast for under a grand, sounds a little cheap and perhaps nasty.
Prob has 10% carbon. If so, then Tigers mast at 65% might be the better option.

Welcome to the forum Graham. Are you new to Durbs, where do you normally sail? The Dams or the sea ?

Hi Graham,
I stay on the bluff and sail at Inanda. The mast is a very good arrows mast and was 1800 when I bought it.It is in very good condition and is not worth my while letting it go for less.

I bought a cheapish 490 from Joluka with 30% carbon and the first time I sailed it the thing broke in half. Gunter was very good about replacing it... no questions asked and he didn't need me to send the pieces or photos or anything. The replacement has lasted well so far.

So if you do buy from Joluka and you have a problem you should be able to get a replacement without issues.

Having said that, a good second hand mast is also a good option in my opinion because I've found that if a mast doesn't break the first few times you use it it can last for years. It's amazing what these things can take... they only really get sorted out if you give them a good knock on something solid (ie board or rock or driveway) or in the shorebreak which is a mast eater.

Ok here goes....

Sorry Tiger thanks for the offer I really appreciate your willingness to part with your kit, however I am feeling the need to support Gunter as a supplier of equipment to us as a community of sailors. So lets hope its a good mast!

Thanks for the help guys I am hoping to be back on the water after a long break, shortly. I'll probably hit vetchies to start out.
