Map to bay area sailing spot

The club has exclusive use of the rigging and parking area at the Durban Bay Sailing site. This is an area with a lockable gate, grass on which to park and rig your kit, showers, a chemical toilet, fresh water to rinse equipment and some shelters from the weather.

The site offers convenient access to a section of Durban harbour in which windsurfing is permitted (see club constitution for details of windsurfing area). This sailing area is suitable for windsurfing in both NE and SW winds (prevailing winds in Durban) and is relatively safe for beginners.

The windsurfing area (on the water) is public property and is not exclusively allocated to windsurfing, nor is it controlled by the boardsailing club. Therefore you are more than welcome to windsurf in this area without making use of the club facilities but parking and rigging is very inconvenient using alternative access.

If you would like to make use of the Bay Site parking and rigging area, please either join the club or arrange to make payment for a day visit (currently R20/sailor). Naturally we would prefer windsurfers to become members of the club (see why join) but in some instances this does not make sense and visitors are then welcome to pay the day fee.

Note that the fee and membership applies only to sailors. Family and friends are welcome as guests of members / day sailors and do not need to pay an additional fee.

School Board

The club owns a learning board and rig (Starboard "Go") very suitable for complete and more advanced beginner sailors. This board is very stable and forgiving and an excellent introduction to windsurfing. Use of the board and rig is free to all club members and can be arranged for Day visitors who pay the day visitor fee.

Encourage your friends and family to try out windsurfing on a moderate day and get them hooked on this great sport. Please arrange with a committee member to make use of the board.

Inflatable Boat

The club also owns an inflatable boat which is used for placing buoys (during racing) and support / rescue on flat water. Windsurfing at a club event (race / open day) will be supported by a crew in the boat.
